The successful redevelopment of East Baltimore’s Inner Harbor District created the necessity to address the outdated and unsatisfactory communities that surrounded the new festival, retail and entertainment complex. Located only three blocks from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the community now named
Albemarle Square employed the tenets of
Renaissance 20/20 to forge a public/private partnership resulting in a highly successful urban mixed-use, mixed-income community. The neighborhood was transformed from a blighted architectural eyesore with high-rise buildings and ultra-high density housing that did not blend with the surrounding area nor meet residents’ needs, into a vibrant community that is recognized for its attractive housing, streetscapes, and proximity to a burgeoning economic center.
This historically significant community is surrounded by a collection of diverse and beloved ethnic communities including “Little Italy’ and Baltimore’s famous “Corned Beef Row.” Today
Albemarle Square blends architecturally with its surrounding neighborhoods, and includes affordable and market rate homes, retail shops, a community center, a youth development center, a micro-business center and green space.
The new community offers 182 rental homes in low-rise garden style apartments and 155 for-sale homes, creating one of the most sought after neighborhoods in Baltimore where the quality of life from education to location has become a true asset and example of New Urbanism.
